7 Fun Family Things to do in July

family having fun at the lake

Are you looking for things to do in July?  Welcome back for another month of ideas for Family Fun.  Depending on where you live this could be the last month before back to school, so let’s make it a fun one.

So here we go!

The 4th of July

The 4th of July kicks off the month, and there are so many ways to celebrate. Does your town have a parade?  Maybe you could organize your own parade with each family decorating a wagon for the parade up and down your block.  You could do the same thing with cars and have a parade route that winds through the neighborhood. A backyard BBQ with all the traditional foods, which in this case could be burgers and hot dogs, corn on the cob, and ice-cold watermelon. How about some Apple pie for dessert?  After dark load up the car and head off for some fireworks, or watch them from your yard if you can.

Let’s play Ball!

If you didn’t get a chance earlier in the year this is a great month to make a day of going to a game.  Ya know bring me some peanuts and Cracker Jacks. When our son was young screaming was one of his favorite things to do. Screaming just brought him pure joy. of course he was always being told to stop or tone it down. He was so happy the first time we took him to a game because we told him he could yell for his team as loud as he wanted to.

Go out for Ice Cream

This is one of my personal summertime favorites.  When I was little we lived in a very small town. The one thing our town did have was a dairy where they made ice cream. Just out of nowhere it seemed my Mom would say “let’s get in the car we are going for ice cream.” It was so much fun, and the ice cream was oh so good.

Take in a local attraction

We are lucky to live where there are lots of local things to do.  We could go to the zoo, or an aquarium, or a water park. Many states have their State Fairs in the summer so if your state is one of these a day at the fair would be a really fun way to spend a day.

Go to the Lake or a local pool

What if you didn’t get a chance last month to make it to the lake how about this month? Is it a family favorite?  Go again.  No lake nearby?  How about a trip to the swimming pool? Either way, you can have great fun and get a chance to cool off.

Camping

Has it been a while since you went on a camping trip? Since school is starting again soon, it’s a perfect time.  No time or money for a full-on camping trip? How about backyard camping? Don’t forget to add all the traditional camping experiences, like singing around a campfire (firepit), telling ghost stories, making some mores, and hotdogs over the fire.

Too hot to go out?

For indoor summer fun, you can have a movie night. Make tents in your living room and let the kids sit in their tents to watch the movie. Don’t forget plenty of popcorn and movie snacks.  Kids a little older? How about a pizza party? Get an assortment of pizza toppings and small prepared crusts, sauce, and shredded cheese, let each person design their own pizza to eat while watching a movie. Can’t decide on a movie? How bout a game night? Or a puzzle night? There are lots of things to do inside too.

So that’s all 7 of my ideas for fun family things to do in July.
